Careless Talk

Play Game

This wacky little game was a personal challenge. I started the project wanting to make a game in a single week like a game jam. After I completed that deadline, I took 3 weeks to polish it up and make it presentable. It was made using Actionscript 3 and Flixel, a powerful retro Flash library. The premise of the game came from the “Careless Talk Costs Lives” WWII propaganda posters. The posters referred to spies gleaning information from the populace, but many feature Hitler himself in various disguises or hiding in plain sight. I saw a lot of charm in drawing a toothbrush mustache and angry eyebrows on commonplace objects, and listening in on civilians having droll conversations, occasionally gossiping about military troop movements. I also enjoy the idea that “winning” the game isn’t necessarily a good thing.
